Paul Walker passed away on November 30th, 2013 after being involved in a single-car accident which claimed his life and that of his good friend and business partner, Roger Rodas, who was behind the wheel. They attended a charity event for Walker's "Reach Out Worldwide" organization that day.
Started getting teary-eyed while writing the intro bit. I'll never forget the day I learned of Paul's passing. I felt like I was on one of those crime-shows because I investigated like crazy after a good friend of mine messaged me asking "DID PAUL WALKER REALLY DIE?!" I had just got home from work, and like usual I soon log on to the social networld- and then that message appeared. I didn't believe it, I said something like "it's probably just a death hoax" and honestly I didn't consider it being real, especially since TMZ first broke the news..
But as I continued the search/investigation.. I soon learned that this news was infact true. One post that continues to stand out from fb comes from #Fast7 director James Wan, who posted "I am so beyond heartbroken right now" once the story was confirmed. All of the hype, anticipation, fan-craze about "Fast & Furious 7" had left my train of thought SO fast- you'd never know it was there to begin with. I am glad he was with a friend, and that they were doing something they loved. That doesn't stop the tear-flow for everyone but it sure makes a difference in the long run.
A recent interview with Tyrese confirms that they shot 85% of the movie by the time Walker passed. They were on Thanksgiving break during the time, and Paul was scheduled to film some "key" scenes upon his return but all we know right now is that they're shooting the last block in April this year.
I think the first time I saw Paul on screen was in Disney's "Meet the Deedles," a made-for-TV movie, back in the good ol' Disney TV-movie days. Then of course, "Varsity Blues" & "Pleasantville," and then came 2001s "The Fast and the Furious," which really boosted his career. I always pictured Paul as his character Brian O'Conner from 2003s "2 Fast 2 Furious," just a cool, down to Earth guy who treats everyone with respect and always has a smile on his face.
After PW's passing- for some reason I started writing all these #Fast scenes in my head (screenplays above). Before, I never even considered writing a fan-made screenplay or anything like that. I guess they're right- sometimes tragedy does inspire creativity. I'm very proud of the scenes, and I hope you appreciate Paul's role in them. I don't think I'll ever write another one featuring Brian O'Conner but I'm sure he'll be referenced, especially when Nico & Jack team up in future installments!
"You don't appreciate something until somebody takes it away from you," chilling words from O'Conner in #Fast6. And true. I never took Paul's work/presence for granted but I'm so overwhelmed/pleased with the enormous response/tributes to him after his passing. And without the facebook FF group I started back in September- I wouldn't have had anyone to vent/grieve to. No one else would have understood. I'm very thankful to have made some great friends, and starting the group was one of the BEST decisions I have ever made.
Paul Walker- GONE but NEVER forgotten. Your legacy will live on. Cody- please help finish the movie, your involvement makes ALL the difference. Vaya Con Dios, PW: "You Were Always My Brother." - RonJammin, 3.9.14
